Over the course of the past decade or so technology has evolved in a way many people in the 20th century could only have dreamt about. The vast revolution in the world of technology has changed the ways in which people relate. In the past people relied on letters to communicate. However, these days most of the communication utilizes technology. Some of the means of communication that are usually used nowadays include Skype, Facebook, twitter and instant messaging among others. This paper will focus on the ways technology has affected teenagers in a negative manner.
The focus of this paper will tackle the following issues such as the origins of texting as a means of communication between the teenagers. Other issues that will be included are the effects of technology in teens, influence of technology on teens and the revolution that technology has brought in terms of communication amongst the teenagers.
Technology has also changed the way teenagers relate to each other. Most of the communication between teenagers usually happens on the social media or through the use of short message services. The use of short message services is especially common among the teen since it is quick and less engaging as compared to making a phone call. The use of short message services as a means of communication between the teens has led to culture called sexting. Sexting is use of short message services to chat about things concerning sex. This is a negative influence to teens since most of them usually end up being sexually harassed either physically or through the phone. This is an easy way for stalkers to harass teens sexually and emotionally.
Cyber-bullying is the act of using the social media in the internet to harass someone. The harassment can be sexual or emotional. Cyber stalkers are known to lure their victims from social media websites. Therefore, teens should be very careful about the kind of information they post on the social sites. This is because such sites can make someone a target of cyber bullying. There is also the threat of impersonation. This happens when someone gives out all personal information.
Therefore, this paper shows that technology has improved communication among teenagers but at the same time has negative effects like cyber bullying and cyber sexting.
